Philharmonic Society holds Chelsea Manor gala

It’s called Chelsea Manor, the 2003 Philharmonic House of Design. The

English-style mansion in the hills of Orange Park Acres has been

decorated, furnished and appointed by local design fellows of the

American Society of Interior Designers. The public open house was

showcased May 4 to local society and will remain on exhibition

through June 1.

The premiere night gala was created by Newport ladies associated

with the Lido Isle committee of the Philharmonic Society of Orange

County.

The dynamic trio of Maureen Ramer, chair, Mary Manno and Mary

McCarthy welcomed the arriving crush, anxious to visit Chelsea Manor,

including very involved Lido Isle residents and members Marion

Pickens with husband Dennis Pickens, Debbie and Don Benedict, Elaine

Gordon, Gail and Ira Rosenstein, Joyce Boghosian, Varla and Kurt

Knauss, Diana Miner, Joyce Merritt, Allegra Stoltz and Susanne Buck.

After a grand tour of the home and grounds guests traveled to the

Bowers Museum in Santa Ana for a black-tie dinner and dancing under

the stars.

Susan Qaqundah, president of the Philharmonic Society Committee,

addressed the revelers with generous thanks for the support that made

the 2003 design house possible. The monthlong event raises funds

necessary to provide music education programs in local schools in

association with the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Nora and Hal Lehman, Alegra and Roger Brown, Marion and Brad

Smith, Judith and Willis Longyear, Cynthia and Derek Niblo, Anne and

Stan Angermeir, Anita and Don Dabney and Jean and Dick Grover all

supported the event.

FESTIVAL OF CHILDREN VOLUNTEER DAY

Newport Coast hostess Sandra Segerstrom Daniels will put on

“Festival of Children Volunteer Day” on May 18 at South Coast Plaza’s

Carousel Court.

This is the second year of the event sponsored by South Coast

Plaza, Children’s Hospital of Orange County and KOCE-TV.

Segerstrom-Daniels created the volunteer day to inspire local youth

to become involved in community affairs.

“We strive to attract young people from Orange County willing to

volunteer time to nonprofit organizations that make a difference

right here at home,” said Segerstrom-Daniels, wife of local executive

John Daniels and family partner in the South Coast Plaza dynasty.

“I had the opportunity to volunteer with Special Olympics when I

was in the eighth grade,” she added. “The value of helping others and

the personal growth I experienced through giving was of tremendous

reward.”

Segerstrom-Daniels is working with local school districts as well

as parents, teachers and organizations to make the volunteer day a

success. Call the Festival of Children at (714) 546-0110 for more

information.

BAHAMAS SUNSET

The fabulous tropical boutique and restaurant Tommy Bahamas,

Newport Beach, hosted a sunset gathering last week for the Children’s

Bureau of Orange County.

The evening was a pre-event “thank you” for underwriters and

patrons of the upcoming John and Donna Crean Clambake set for June 14

at the Hyatt Newporter benefiting the Children’s Bureau, one of the

oldest child-care agencies in California, and a favorite cause of

Donna Crean.

Peggy Goldwater Clay was at the helm, busing guests including

Shari Ciko, Lana Chandler and Barbara and Jay Magness, along with

very generous sponsor Crevier BMW/Mini-Cooper (donors of the use of a

Mini for one year to a winning auction bidder at the June 14 event).

Also enjoying Tommy Bahamas’ coconut shrimp and chardonnay on the

patio at dusk were Jack Matthews of AcrA Aerospace, Steve Skelton of

Washington Mutual, Mehdi Eftikari, Maureen Zehntner, Beth Shields,

Darby Manclark, Missy Stern and Margaret Kirby.

The annual clambake is one of the major summer parties on the

California Rivera. Featuring a lobster dinner with all the trimmings,

the clambake raises funds for more than 3,000 abused and at-risk

children in Southern California.
