WEDNESDAY
* Wave Street: A resident in the 200 block reported that a
suspicious man in his 20s wearing no shirt was poking around outside
the house with a flashlight at 1:34 a.m. The reporting party called
police back four minutes later and said it was only a neighbor.
TUESDAY
* Noria Street: A resident in the 1100 block told police at 3:15
p.m. that his tools were stolen from his carport either Sunday or
Monday. He called back five minutes later and said his car’s
registration tag was also missing.
* Cozumel Court: Police arrested a husband and wife on suspicion
of domestic violence and child endangerment at 5:53 p.m. after both
showed signs of being physically harmed by the other. The fight
reportedly began because the wife had called her husband’s boss on
his cell phone earlier to find out where her husband was.
MONDAY
* Park Avenue: A resident in the 900 block called police saying
that a hummingbird was in the house at 10:17 a.m. Animal services
retrieved the bird at 12:09 p.m.
* North Coast Highway: A visitor at Heisler Park reported smelling
gas between Picnic Beach and Divers Cove. The fire department checked
a manhole just north and determined the incident to be a false alarm.
* High Drive: A woman who had tried to separate a pit bull from a
Labrador retriever suffered a bite on her hand at 5:24 p.m. She said
the pit bull had come running from a house and attacked the Labrador.
She wasn’t sure which dog had bitten her.
SUNDAY
* South Coast Highway: Police arrested a 22-year-old San Luis
Obispo resident on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and of
running a red light at 1:44 a.m. in the 2600 block.
SATURDAY
* Laguna Canyon Road: A woman called police at 9:09 a.m. saying
she mistakenly put a $10 bill in the change machine at the Sawdust
Festival instead of a $1 bill. Meter Services reported to the scene
at 10:11 a.m., found the woman’s claim to be truthful and exchanged
the $10 bill for $1.
AUG. 29
* South Coast Highway: Police received two calls at around 6:30
p.m. of low-flying airplanes near the corner of Oak Street.
* South Coast Highway: A resident in the 500 block reportedly
threw his ex-girlfriend out of his bed and then out of his home
because she wouldn’t have sex with him. The 31-year-old woman, a
Newport Beach resident, said she had just wanted to sleep over after
having watched the MTV Music Awards and her 34-year-old ex-boyfriend
had pushed her out of bed and threw her clothes and purse outside
when she wouldn’t have sex with him. Police made no arrests.
AUG. 28
* Fairview Drive: Police arrested a 45-year-old resident on a
no-bail warrant for drug sales and arrested a 24-year-old resident on
suspicion of possessing an opium pipe at 9:25 a.m. in the 200 block.
The 45-year-old also reportedly had three grams of methamphetamine.
