AMNESTY LECTURE
William F. Schulz, executive director of Amnesty International
USA, will be the featured speaker at Orange Coast Unitarian
Universalist Church, 1259 Victoria St. in Costa Mesa, at 5 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 13. Reserved tickets to the lecture and reception are

OPEN HOUSE SE’LICHOT
There will be an Open House Se’Lichot at Temple Isaiah of Newport
Beach -- setting the tone of solemnity which characterizes the
upcoming High Holy Days. Temple Isaiah will hold their Se’Lichot at 8
p.m. Sept. 20 at 2401 Irvine Ave. The prayers of Se’Lichot are to ask
God to pardon sins and end the suffering of all mankind. It looks for

YOM KIPPUR
The Pacific Community of Secular Humanistic Jews presents a Yom
Kippur observance at 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Unitarian Church of Costa
Mesa. The event will consist of a Yom Kippur program, discussions on
medical ethics, Jewish history through music and the roadmap to

PARENTING GROUP
Jewish Family Service of Orange County is forming a parenting
group to help parents to understand and deal with the feelings and
behavior of their children. The group meets from 10 to 11:30 a.m. the

Jewish Family Service is offering a support and discussion group
for adults whose children or spouses suffer from alcohol and drug

BAHAI FIRESIDES
Members of the Bahai faith hold informal public discussions on
spiritual topics at 7:30 p.m. every Friday and at 11:30 the last
Sunday of the month. The talks include brunch or dinner. Also,

A SPIRITUAL JOURNEY
A 26-lesson study on the life of Jesus Christ titled “Journey to

MEDITATION LESSONS
A free “lectio divina” meditation group meeting is held at 7:10
a.m. Tuesdays at Our Lady Queen of Angels, 2046 Mar Vista Drive,
Newport Beach. Lectio is a style of meditation that includes using
Scripture or a special reading as a stimulus. The Christian
Meditation Group meets from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on the first and third
Wednesdays of each month at the center. The format includes two
periods of meditation with some instruction on how to meditate, a

The Jewish Family Service offers a support group for women older
than 50 to address issues such as anxiety at 10 a.m. on the second

NEW GROUPS
Jewish Family Service of Orange County has formed a bereavement
support group that meets at 10 a.m. Tuesdays and a Challenge of
Change support group that meets at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Both groups
meet at Temple Judea in Laguna Hills, 24512 Moulton Parkway. The
service is also forming a parenting support group to meet the first
and third Mondays of each month at 10 a.m. at the Jewish Federation
