SHAKESPEARE
LOVES ATHENS
UC Irvine’s drama department on Friday presents one of William
Shakespeare’s least-known plays, “Timon of Athens,” about a wealthy
man who gives excessively to his friends and finds himself faced with
unpaid bills, at the Winifred Smith Hall on campus. Director Robert
Cohen takes the bard’s tale of corruption and political betrayal in
ancient Greece and stages it in contemporary times.
Performance times are 8 p.m. on April 22, 23, 28 and 30, with a
Saturday matinee on April 30 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $9 to $17. Call
