“Heartbeat” a fundraiser for the Glendale Community College Dance

Department, will be at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday

in the GCC Theatre, 1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale. The show features

Deborah Brockus of the Brockus Project Dance Company and Anthony

Johnson from Ballet Magique, and musical artists such as the edgy

rock quartet, Slant (Gotham Records), as well as introduces fresh

Improv-O-Mania, an afternoon of improvisational comedy mayhem,

The Summer Music Series continues with the Reese Place Band from 1

2005 Summer Music in the Park free concert series ends today with

“Hot August Night! -- A Tribute to Neil Diamond starring Dean Colley”

from 6 to 8 p.m. in Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd., La Canada

The Falcon Theatre’s Family Summer Theatre presents the world

premiere of the musical “Groovaloo.” The Groovaloos, an eclectic

group of hip hop dancers, has recently been featured in Gap and iPod

commercials, the American Music Awards and films like “Charlie’s

Angels.” Performances are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 4

p.m. Sundays through Aug. 28. Tickets are $25, $20 for students,

seniors and subscribers and $15 for children 12 and under. For

“Lend Me a Tenor,” a comedy by Ken Ludwig, is continuing at

Glendale Centre Theatre. The fun begins at the opera house when the

world-famous tenor passes out and an aspiring singer tries to fill

in. Performances are at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 3 p.m.

Saturday through Aug. 27. Tickets range from $18 to $22 and can be

Glendale Centre Theatre presents “The Sword in the Stone” adapted

by Craig Sabin with music by Chris P. Bacon at 11 a.m. Saturdays at

director. Tickets are $12.50 and $10.50 for children 12 and under.

“Oklahomo!” by Justin Tanner has been extended until Sept. 23 at

Third Stage, 2811 W. Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank. A theatrical ensemble

rehearses an unauthorized and very gay adaptation of the Rodgers and

Hammerstein classic (reset in a leather bar) with disastrous results.

Will the Los Angeles theater community ever be the same? Performances

The West Coast Premiere of “Power in the Blood” continues at the

Alliance Theatre, 3204 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank. It is written by

Sarah E. Bewley and directed by Jim Blanchette. The play examines the

fundamental issues of hope, faith and how humanity relates to the

Devine. It previously won awards from Dayton (Ohio) Playhouse

FutureFest, a national competition for new plays. Performances are at

8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 3. Tickets are $15. For

“Blake ... da Musical!” continues at GTC Burbank. Performances are

Artist Rafael Vindiola, who creates all his paintings with knives,

is showing his works on Ireland through Aug. 30 at the La Canada

Flintridge Library, 4545 Oakwood Ave. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 8

p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m.

Sam Brown’s exhibit of line drawings, called “My Life as a Cloud,”

is continuing at Wax Poetic Gallery, 3208 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank.

Brown started drawing stick figures back in 1996, launched his

website explodingdog.com in 1999 and over the past several years has

become a bit of an internet cult icon. His website receives 12

million hits per month. Brown has created more than 2000 original

works, all inspired by the title submissions he receives on his

website, titles like “you make me forget how to breathe.” The exhibit

“Revolutions,” a free exhibit that features the artists behind the

images synonymous with identifying the pop culture of the 1960s and

into the new millennium, continues until Oct. 9 at the Forest Lawn

loaned more than 100 Items in the collection, which includes Michael
