Section Tournament

The Newport Harbor Baseball Assn. Mustang All-Star team was eliminated on July 16 in Section Tournament play, falling to Fountain Valley Red, 16-6.

Newport Harbor had beaten Fountain Valley Blue, 9-8, earlier in the day and went 2-2 in Section Tournament Play.

The Mustang All-Stars played in five postseason all-star tournaments, advancing to the championship game in the first three and taking second place each time before advancing in the District Tournament.

The Newport Harbor Baseball Assn. Mustang All-Stars went a combined 17-8 in all-star tournaments.

District Tournament

The Newport Harbor Baseball Assn. Corona del Mar 14-year-old Pony All-Stars were eliminated from the District Tournament after losing to La Mirada, 9-3, on Saturday. Manager Ken Gerdau said his team fell behind, 6-0, in the first inning before managing to battle La Mirada even for the rest of the game.

Gerdau said relief pitcher Nick Flamson did a good job coming in and keeping Corona del Mar in the game.

Gerdau said his team was out of gas after a tough 3-2 loss to Cypress earlier in the day, but added that Corona del Mar had a great tournament season.
