Hits keep on coming for Edison freshman Snyder

Eric Snyder is only a rookie on the Edison High baseball team, but the freshman center fielder is playing beyond his years.

Snyder went into the Edison record book Friday when he came up with two hits — giving him 44 on the year to establish the program’s single-season mark — during a tough 2-1 loss to a Los Alamitos team that currently leads the Sunset League race. Edison Coach Steve Lambright said Snyder broke the previous record of 42 set in 1981 by John Brink.

Snyder, a left-handed hitter who is the lead-off batter for the Chargers, is hitting .452 in league play and .468 for the season.

“He showed up for summer ball and after a few games, I knew that we had found our center fielder,” Lambright said. “He was just entering high school but his talent was apparent.

“Eric’s as humble as you can get. This kid is a true ballplayer. He comes in and works hard and his talent speaks for itself.”
