E-waste recycling event helps out Goodwill
- Share via
Newport Beach will host a free e-waste collection 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 17 at the city corporation yard, 592 Superior Ave.
E-waste includes working and non-working electronics such as personal computers, laptops, cellphones, telephones, fax machines, radios and stereo equipment.
It is illegal for Californians to toss out electronics as regular trash collection because e-waste can contain toxic substances such as lead and mercury, which can pollute ground water, making it unsafe.
Newport Beach is partnering with Goodwill of Orange County to organize the collection. As a state-certified e-waste collector, Goodwill of Orange County will either recycle electronics collected at the event or make sure all sensitive materials are properly disposed.
