‘Green Room’ at Hilton has eco-friendly services

The Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort recently opened the “Green Room,” a self-serve, eco-friendly laundry facility available to all guests.

All construction materials from floor to ceiling are made from post-consumer recycled materials. The washers and dryers are Energy Star-rated units, the lighting uses all energy-efficient light bulbs, the wall surface has been painted with low VOC paint, all accessories are made from recycled materials, and the detergent selection includes a nontoxic, biodegradable option.

“The Green Committee at the Hilton Waterfront is proud to offer the Green Room to our guests in our quest to preserve natural resources and improve the environment,” said JD Shafer, the resort’s general manager, in a news release.

“In a growing list of steps, the resort is implementing to reduce its carbon footprint. This room is conceptually simple and environmentally intelligent, putting a portion of the responsibility to preserve into the hands of our guests. This is big part of the Hilton Waterfront’s culture in the 21st century.”

The Green Committee at the resort is composed of staff members from a variety of departments and meets regularly to discuss and develop eco-friendly operations and their implementation.
