COSTA MESA — Gabriela Valles had a goal and an assist and Amanda Couch added two assists for the host Lions in the nonconference game Friday.

Vanguard (4-0), ranked No. 11 in the NAIA, and senior goalie Jillian Foss (two saves Friday) have yet to be scored upon this season.

Ivana Mendez and Danielle Dintino also scored for Vanguard.

Chapman fell to 6-1.

UC Irvine 2, Utah Valley 0

RIVERSIDE — Freshman Mar Rodriguez opened the scoring in the 64th minute and freshman Jackie Samis added insurance in the final minutes in the UC Riverside Tournament game Friday.

Juniors Alyssa Humphrey and Milana Shabestari had assists, while junior goalkeeper Danielle de Deriere had three saves to post the shutout, her fourth of the season.

UC Irvine improved to 6-1-1, dropping Utah Valley to 3-6.

COSTA MESA — Taryn Bayles tied the score in the 28th minute, but the visitors prevailed in the Orange Empire Conference clash Friday.

Alyssa Simon had nine saves for the Pirates (5-1, 1-1 in conference).

SAN DIEGO — Sophomore middle blocker Alexander Hauser had a career-high seven blocks to pace the Anteaters’ 25-14, 25-21, 25-17 victory in the San Diego Tournament Friday night.

Junior outside hitter Kari Pestolesi had a team-high 11 kills and added three blocks as No. 18-ranked UCI (10-2) posted a 9-4 edge in total blocks.

Senior setter Taryn Robertson had 15 assists and while freshman libero Kristin Winkler had 12 digs to lead the Anteaters.

San Jose State fell to 0-9.

Orange Coast def. Citrus

COSTA MESA — Poerava Gantt had 14 kills and Karlee Skalla added 10 for the host Pirates in the 25-14, 25-14, 25-13 nonconference victory Friday.

Nikki Osuna had 18 digs and Gantt chipped in 10.

Kimya Jafroudi had 26 assists and Briana Fields contributed five blocks for OCC (4-0).

Citrus is 0-4.

MEN’S SOCCER

Saint Mary’s 2, UC Irvine 1

IRVINE — Jonathan Prieto opened the scoring in the 62nd minute for the host Anteaters, who couldn’t hold on in the nonconference match Friday.

The Gaels tied the score in the 72nd minute and scored in the second overtime session to drop the No. 16-ranked ’Eaters to 4-2.

Saint Mary’s is now 3-0-2.

Amani Walker had the assist for UCI, which posted a 12-7 shot advantage.
